The Boston Guardian: Community Music Center of Boston Is Moving HQ to Roxbury

June 26th, 2026

The Boston Guardian recently reported on the Community Music Center of Boston’s plans to open a new headquarters in Roxbury at the historic Nubian Gallery building near Nubian Square.

The new facility will expand access to music education, music therapy and youth employment programming, with classrooms and music studios, a performance hall, recording studio and community gathering spaces. The Community Music Center expects the project to increase its reach by at least 50%, serving more than 7,000 students annually.

BlueHub Capital provided $10 million in New Markets Tax Credit allocation to help finance the renovation. The investment supports a long-standing Boston institution while helping create an expanded cultural and educational resource for Roxbury residents and families across the city.

“We believe arts and community centers play a vital role in neighborhood well-being, and yet are often outside traditional credit boxes,” said Connie Max, chief credit officer and president of BlueHub Managed Assets. “Financial institutions are not, traditionally, looking to finance the arts because they’re not high-margin businesses.”

The organization will continue music instruction at its South End location while moving administrative offices to Roxbury. Construction is expected to conclude in November 2026, with the new headquarters anticipated to open in January 2027.
