June 5th, 2024

Kids’ Meals, a Houston-based nonprofit, has begun construction on a new 50,000-square-foot facility in, set to open in mid-2025, as reported in the Houston Business Journal. This expansion will nearly triple their current space, enhancing their capacity to serve Houston's children.

A significant boost to this project came from BlueHub Capital, which made a $32.5 million investment through the New Market Tax Credit program. This investment resulted in a $6.3 million subsidy to Kids’ Meals, significantly aiding their efforts to reduce food insecurity for thousands of children.

The new headquarters will feature more space for food preparation, storage, volunteer activities, meetings, and offices, along with an improved van loading dock.

The nonprofit, which serves over 9,800 children daily, plans to increase volunteer capacity significantly with the new facility. In its current location, Kids' Meals can accommodate 100 volunteers a day; the new facility will allow for 450 volunteers daily, more than quadrupling the current capacity. The enhanced space will also enable collaboration with other social services organizations to provide training and education for the families they serve.
